You have had pets before and are comfortable and confident handling them. You have basic knowledge in how to care for them, feeding, toileting etc.

It is important to ensure you are allowed to have pets at your house and that you can keep them inside when required and have a suitable room/area to keep them. If you have a yard, fencing must be secure and there must be protection from the elements. Please note, cats and kittens must be contained indoors at all times.

Furmentality Inc. can lend you everything you need to get started as a foster carer and will supply your foster pet's food, litter, bedding and any medication. You may already have items such as a litter tray for cats, bedding and toys for them to play with

It is a big responsibility deciding to be a foster carer. We depend on you to care for your foster pet to a high standard for a specific length of time. Foster periods can be between several days to 2 weeks.

Your foster pet will need you to care for their emotional and mental wellbeing as well as seeing to their physical needs. Spending time with them and socialising them is key to their future happiness.

Yes; You can foster if you already have pets. We ask that all cats and dogs will need to be up to date with their vaccinations and we do ask you to keep existing cats and dogs separate from any foster cats and kittens. A bathroom or laundry works perfectly for this. Please take into account the personality and health of your existing pets when considering fostering.
